CHOGM 2026 Comes to Antigua and Barbuda: What You Need to Know

Antigua and Barbuda Welcomes the World

Antigua and Barbuda is making history as the host nation for CHOGM 2026 — the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting. This landmark summit brings together leaders from 56 member nations representing over 2.5 billion people, and this year, the world's eyes are on our twin-island paradise.

For a small nation of roughly 100,000 people, hosting CHOGM is a defining moment — an opportunity to showcase our culture, our resilience, and our place as a respected voice in the global community.

What Is CHOGM?

The Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting is one of the most significant multilateral summits in the world. Held every two years, CHOGM brings together prime ministers, presidents, and heads of state from across the Commonwealth to discuss shared priorities including climate change, sustainable development, trade, and democracy.

Past host cities include London, Malta, Perth, and Kigali. In 2026, St. John's, Antigua joins that distinguished list.

Why Antigua and Barbuda?

Our nation has long been a passionate advocate for small island developing states (SIDS) on the world stage. Prime Minister Gaston Browne has been a prominent voice on climate justice and ocean governance — issues that resonate deeply with Commonwealth priorities. Hosting CHOGM is a recognition of that leadership and a platform to amplify it further.

Beyond politics, Antigua and Barbuda offers a stunning backdrop for international diplomacy — pristine beaches, world-class hospitality, and a warm, welcoming culture that makes every visitor feel at home.

What Does CHOGM Mean for Local Businesses?

The economic impact of hosting a summit of this scale is significant. Thousands of delegates, journalists, and support staff will descend on Antigua, generating demand for hotels, restaurants, transportation, tours, and services across all sectors.
